Rene Atayan is not a career politician, and is running as a citizen legislator who will leverage her business skills and history of community service on behalf of the 88th Assembly District.

Education & Career

Graduating from Michigan State University, Rene earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1983 and began her career in Detroit’s automotive sector in sales and process engineering and logistics, calling on OEM and aftermarket manufacturers for the Big Three automakers.

Changing careers, she moved to New York and joined Time Inc. in a sales-training program and was eventually transferred to Chicago with Sports Illustrated; 14 years at Time Inc. (TimeWarner) was spent primarily in the sales and sales development functions at SI and Money/Fortune Group back in New York City.

Leaving TimeWarner, Rene became VP of Sales for iNEXTV in New York City, a division of Ampex Corporation, a leading U.S. provider of syndicated streaming video content distributed through major Web portals, vertical destinations and broadband service providers. She helped develop metrics and proprietary presentation technology in connection with streaming technology.

After 9/11, she opted to scale back and started Atayan Inc., a marketing and sales consulting firm, allowing her to concentrate more acutely on raising her two children. Its client list has been very diverse, ranging from the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association), to a high-end artists’ consortium, to a major commercial/residential real estate developer.

Family

After moving back to New York a second time from Chicago, Rene married her beau of three years, Chris Atayan, although the relationship actually began when they met on the swim team as eight-year-olds in their hometown of Lansing, Michigan!

Rene Atayan lives in Bronxville, NY with her husband of 19 years, Christopher, and children, Alina (16) and Ara (12). Their children attend the Bronxville School, and Christopher currently serves on the Bronxville School Board of Education.
